SMI at London International Shipping Week and DSEI 2023
The SMI Team individually attended nearly 60 events during LISW and DSEI.? The week provides SMI with a great opportunity to champion our members and drive the profile of the UK’s maritime engineering sector.? We continued our positive engagement process in pushing the autonomy agenda with an industry panel including 2 micro-SME’s, Lloyd’s Register, Kongsberg and the MCA.?
?Our presence at the defence exhibition, DSEI, provided a base for 8 companies to work and build their profiles at the exhibition.? It provided a hub and meeting point for many more member companies during what was an exceptionally busy show.

SME Spotlight: Kinsetsu’s ktrack technology – hailed for ‘unheard of’ success by the Royal Navy?
Heralded by the Royal Navy for ‘unheard of levels of success’ within a trial, the ktrack platform was one of the innovative solutions displayed within DSEI’s United Naval Zone at the SMI Pavilion.
?Designed by Belfast company Kinsetsu, ktrack technology reduces the Risk to Life (RtL) of Souls on Board and will be one of the showpiece displays at a shared stand.? Kinsetsu worked collaboratively with the Royal Navy, testing the ktrack platform onboard the Royal Navy's HMS Queen Elizabeth (QNLZ) and HMS Prince of Wales (PWLS) carriers.
?SME Spotlight: AutoNaut Displays Innovative Uncrewed Surface Vehicle (USV) at DSEI 2023?
AutoNaut, a pioneer in maritime technology, showcased the remarkable potential and versatility of its USV, highlighting its crucial role in advancing defence and security operations at last week's DSEI.?
?The USV counts a number of USPs that set it apart, including its adaptive design and communication relay - among others.?
SME Spotlight: Instrumentation Specialists P&S Automation exhibit at DSEI for the first time
An expert in instrumentation, control and automation systems for marine and land-based industries, it plays an active role in keeping the automation and control systems maintained and reliable to help ensure safe and efficient operation of their client’s platforms. Currently, about 70% of their work is with the UK Ministry of Defence and predominantly with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. P&S Automation made its DSEI debut last week as part of SMI's shared shared in the Naval Zone.?
SMM 2024: UK Group Pavilion Exhibition Package is now available to book.?
With more than 2,000 exhibitors, 30,000 attendees and 90,000 square metres of exhibition space, SMM exists on a scale unlike any other.
One of its defining qualities is its ability to bring together the entire spectrum of the maritime sector. The event returns to Hamburg from 3rd-6th September 2023. Building on the success of previous UK Pavilions at both SMM and other worldwide maritime events, we will once again be hosting a UK Pavilion at SMM 2024.?

Following its successful launch during London International Shipping Week,?
NSIGN Market Sounding Phase continues with an online webinar on Wednesday 27th September which will cover the introduction to NSIGN, and the Scope and Ambition of the programme for SHIPS.

Team Resolute unveils FSS evolved design
Team Resolute, a consortium of Navantia UK, BMT and Harland & Wolff, is delighted to unveil its evolved design for the Fleet Solid Support ship. The progress towards a mature design is a key part of the UK Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) £1.6 billion 'Manufacture Contract’ for three Fleet Solid Support (FSS) ships that will provide the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) with a world-leading capability to support global operations for the Royal Navy.
Artemis Technologies showcases electric foiling technology?on The One Show?
Artemis Technologies recently featured on the programme to give insight into how electric foiling technology will offer sustainable public transport when the first Artemis EF-24 Passenger ferry hits the water next year!? ? This zero-emission ferry has been developed alongside Belfast Maritime Consortium partners and supported by UK Research and Innovation's Strength in Places Fund. As part of the project, a demonstration route will operate between Belfast-Bangor to showcase this transformative technology to the rest of the world.

The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (ORE Catapult) has launched the second annual UK Offshore Wind Supply Chain Confidence Survey to understand more about the confidence of companies operating in or moving towards operating in the UK's offshore wind supply chain.?

?COP28 Launches Energy Transition Changemakers Initiative?
The COP28 Presidency has launched an exciting new initiative – ‘ Energy Transition Change makers’.
Applications to the initiative will be accepted across four industry categories:
1) Renewables, Renewables Integration and Clean Power
2) Energy Efficiency
3) Low-carbon Hydrogen
4) Heavy Emitting Sectors
Those who are chosen will have the opportunity to present their work to an audience and expert panel at COP28 on?5th December.
Deadline to apply is?9th?October.
Offshore Wind trade mission to the Baltic states - 14-16 Nov. 2023
Department for Business and Trade (DBT)? at the British Embassies in Lithuania,? Latvia and Estonia are leading a trade mission for UK offshore wind industry supply chain companies and organisations that are keen to learn about current and future projects in the region.
