Cammell Laird to Build First New Mersey Ferry in 60 Years


Cammell Laird will construct the first new Mersey ferry in 60 years in a move which marks a major milestone for the shipbuilder. The Birkenhead facility, part of the APCL group, has put pen to paper with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority on a deal which will see the new vessel designed and built exclusively on-site.?

?The state-of-the-art vessel will be designed to harness green technology, with a cutting-edge Azi-pull propeller system for reduced fuel usage and a diesel-electric hybrid-ready propulsion system – with potential for future conversion to full electric propulsion as technology evolves.

Robosys Automation and AMC Search Sign a Three Year Partnering Agreement to Drive Pioneering MASS Training Worldwide

Robosys Automation, AI maritime autonomy and smartshipping specialist, and the Australian Maritime College’s AMC Search, have officially announced a three-year partnering agreement to enhance MASS certified training, to drive pioneering remote operator training on a worldwide scale.

?The announcement was made at the inaugural International Conference on Maritime Autonomy and Remote Navigation (ICMAR Nav) conference held 27-30 Nov 2023 at the University of Tasmania’s Australian Maritime College, AMC Search, Launceston, Australia.

?Maritime UK Has Launched Version 7 of the Industry Code of Practice for Maritime Autonomous Ship Systems

The rapid advancement in maritime autonomy has led to the need for updated guidance for those who own and operate Maritime Autonomous Ship Systems (MASS).?

Although it is not a legal document, the Code has been adopted by manufacturers, service providers, and others as part of their daily work. Several manufacturers have reported that their clients require compliance with the Code for contractual negotiations.

?The latest version, Version 7, provides updated guidance on various topics including Inland Waterways and Operator Standards.

?Marine Components International (MCI) Wins Singapore Shipyard Deal to Supply Seven New CTVs

Leading Dorset-based maritime equipment specialist, Marine Components International (MCI) is growing its exports footprint in Asia after winning a new deal to supply A60 fire dampers for seven new Windflex 27 Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs) being built in Singapore.

?Poole-headquartered MCI operates the global rights to distribute fire dampers made by London based manufacturer BSB. MCI won the contract with the Singapore shipyard to supply the new-build vessels in partnership with Australian HVAC specialist Marine Airflow International based in Queensland.
