Hello, LinkedIn community!
As a proud member of SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. , I am thrilled to share our ongoing journey towards sustainability, especially as we celebrate World Sustainability Day, marked on October 26.
At SMHCC, we believe that sustainability isn't just a goal; it's a way of life. It's about recognizing our role in addressing the pressing global challenges of our time, including climate change, pollution, and resource depletion. On this significant day, we want to remind everyone of the urgent need to protect our planet for future generations.
Our sustainability efforts are rooted in our commitment to the 7Gs, or Seven Green Goals, inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG). These goals serve as the compass guiding our actions, and they are deeply embedded in every facet of our operations. The credit for ensuring the realization of these goals goes to our dedicated property Sustainability Champions.
These 7Gs are not just buzzwords; they are actionable areas of focus:
Our commitment goes beyond rhetoric; it's about real, tangible actions that impact the environment positively. We're not just aiming to reduce our carbon emissions; we're aiming for a complete transformation of our approach to business.
But it's not just about what we do as a company; it's also about the vital role each one of us plays. As an HR executive, I'm excited to be part of a team that is actively exploring the link between sustainability and Green Human Resource Management.
In fact, I'd like to share with you the abstract of a recent study conducted within our organization:

Research Title: Top management green commitment and green intellectual capital as enablers of hotel environmental performance: The mediating role of green human resource management
This study delves into the factors that drive hotel environmental performance, an issue that scholars have long acknowledged. It's based on the resource-based view perspective, and it investigates the influence of top management's green commitment and green intellectual capital on green human resource management and, in turn, on hotel environmental performance.
To gather data, we conducted a longitudinal study involving 800 hotel employees in Manila, using an online survey. The results are incredibly promising, suggesting that top management's green commitment and green intellectual capital directly impact green human resource management and hotel environmental performance. This research reinforces the belief that sustainability isn't just a corporate initiative; it's an intrinsic part of our overall performance.
These findings are more than theoretical; they have practical implications. In a world where sustainability matters more than ever, businesses that embrace it are better poised for long-term success. Our HR department is at the forefront of this change, helping foster a culture of sustainability within our organization.
As part of SMHCC, I invite you to be a part of this transformative journey. Let's continue this conversation and collaborate to make the world a greener, more sustainable place. Together, we can achieve remarkable things.
