They smell like ashtray

Many people cannot go without smoking. They smoke in a restaurant that allows smoking with beverages and some restaurants have a separate smoking room or lounge. A person drinks coffee, smokes and sometimes smokes while drinking coffee, discussing issues pertaining to life and society.

There are people who have smoked hundred thousand cigarettes in their life, and each one of that cigarette meant something to them. They enjoy a few of them. They have smoked great, okay type and terrible cigarettes. They have smoked dry and moist, aromatic and almost sweet cigarettes. They have smoked hastily, and other times slowly and with pleasure.

They develop a unique attachment to smoking and enjoy it. They become addicted to smoking, making circles of smoke while exhaling – filling the room with smoking smell when you handshake with them, they leave strands of smell on your hand and when you hug them they smell repugnant but still you hug them and welcome them to your place.

Smokers smell like ashtray most of the times, they chew tobacco and spit in the corners and on streets making one feeling ugly. Every smoker I hear after every season of indulgence resolves to smokeless life from the next day, week, or a month. It is a common pledge – many of non-smokers can recall a smoker friend after smoking two three pipes regrettably comment after finishing the third cigarette in a row that he will drop this habit next time.

Most people are straight edged until they attain a certain age or enter into a company of friends who have already started smoking, but hesitantly dabble in smoking, mainly because they are indulged into physical activities or sports that keep them away from trying smoking.

There are people who meet outside, meeting a bunch of cool professionals – where there are no gender-specific smoking habits, where a girl breaks open a pack of cigarette, smoke with boys confidently and enjoy each puff.

People gradually enter into a habit of smoking and remain dependent on cigarettes throughout their life. There are people around us who smoke secretly on and off for years, then openly after they jump the barrier that obstructs them to smoke openly.

There are people who steal a cigarette from parents, and use them for the devious purpose, some beg for a cigarette when they run out of cash to buy one. Some smoke cigarette buts, bidis, and straw. There are instances when the cigarette burns your trousers, jackets, hems, and car seats. There are incidents when you singe eyebrows, and eyelashes, or fall asleep while smoking.

There are people who smoke when they are depressed, happy, or alone. Every smoker has a reason for which he smokes. He smokes in the smoking lounge and smoking makes him feel good and exuberant. He smokes to evade the fear and smokes to make the right decision in a condition where he is stressed and nothing works out according to a plan.

Despite warnings on the packet, people smoke and avoid that warning. Smoking is a need though it has harmful effects as well as long as it serves the purpose of the smoker. It is dear to them.

Smoking is good for smokers only, the non-smoker becomes a casualty of that odour that emits from the body of the smoker. That sometimes causes headache and breathlessness. Ask a fellow passenger who sits next to a smoker, the smell that wafts from the body of a smoker makes one almost vomit.

Can there be a day without smoking? Like there are days when people go for blackouts there must be days when a state or city goes smokeless.
