Featured Alum: Justin Goldston, PhD (’14 S C M) Professor and Coordinator of the Project and Supply Chain Management program at Penn State Wilkes-Barre
Dr. Justin Goldston spent a career within the industry as a management consultant working with organizations on supply chain management initiatives, increasing operational efficiencies, and assisting in digital transformation projects. To add to his experience, early in his career, Goldston decided to look for a graduate program in the area of Supply Chain Management. After discovering that the Supply Chain program at Smeal was ranked as one of the top in the world year after year, he applied, was accepted, and began his Penn State journey. After completing the Master's program at Penn State, Goldston continued his education by pursuing a terminal degree in Leadership and Organizational Change. During this time, he performed five TEDx talks in 2019, published the book Critical Success Factors in Enterprise Resource Planning Implementation in U.S. Manufacturing, along with various peer-reviewed academic journal articles. After balancing a career in consulting, completing his doctoral program, and teaching in various undergraduate and graduate programs, Dr. Goldston made the transition into academia full-time. In the fall of 2020, he came back home to the Penn State family when he started a new role as Professor and Coordinator of Project and Supply Chain Management at Penn State Wilkes-Barre. There he is working to create the campus’s first TEDx event where the Project and Supply Chain Management program will present TEDxPSUWilkesBarre on March 27, 2021. The theme for this event is The Young. The Undiscovered., and will feature students from Penn State University Park, the Student Body President from MIT, the Student Body President from Yale, among other young, undiscovered speakers that will be contributors to positive social change around the world. You can find the current developments of TEDxPSUWilkesBarre at www.tedxpsuwb.com.
Justin’s tip for success is, "Challenge the status quo and think unconventionally.”
Topics for week!
#SmealAlumniCompany - Penn State Wilkes Barre:
Lifelong Learning/Education: This article by the Economist discusses mid- and low- ranking universities are most at risk, especially those that depend on international students. Elite universities are well placed to make it through the crisis thanks to hefty cash reserves and the ability to borrow on more generous terms. Wired discusses the problems of the current hybrid schooling model. Their argument states that it is better to have students spend their time within a consistent group of peers to avoid extra interactions that will occur when students are kept out of school for multiple days each week.
