Featured Alum: Julian Lui '16 FIN, New Verticals Business Development at DoorDash

After graduating in 2016, Julian Lui moved to New York City to join Goldman Sachs' Technology (TMT) Investment Banking Division, a two-year Analyst program where he focused on equity issuance for Technology companies. In this role, he worked with cross-functional business partners to advise technology companies that sought to raise funds in the equity markets. After his analyst years, Julian accepted an opportunity to move to Hong Kong. There, he spent time working with Goldman's Hong Kong Investment Banking team to help manage an influx of equity deal flow. Julian then moved to San Francisco, where he worked on deals like Pinterest's IPO as an Associate on Goldman’s SF TMT team.

After three years at Goldman, Julian decided to enter the startup world. He joined DoorDash in 2019, focused on growing their Grocery and Convenience verticals as the fourth member of their pre-sale Business Development organization. Currently, Julian leads DoorDash's Convenience pre-sale Business Development effort, which entails defining and executing the sales strategy to continue growing DoorDash's lead in the industry.

At Penn State, Julian was involved in Alpha Kappa Psi, the Nittany Lion Fund, and THON. In his free time, he likes to grab food with friends, go to the gym and on runs, watch the NBA, and listen to music.

Julian’s career advice… Oftentimes, great professional opportunities are masked as challenges that can make you feel uncomfortable - a new role with different responsibilities, a geographic reassignment to an area where you lack a network, a new career path that you hadn't considered before. Keep an open mind and take advantage of these opportunities early on in your career. You won't regret it!
