University of Minnesota protest

A protest organized by the University of Minnesota's chapter of Students for a Democratic Society took place inside the administrative building Morrill Hall. TwinCities.com says the Pro-Palestinian protesters demanded the University divest from Israel.

Kare11 says things got heated. Students barricaded doors and damaged property, crossing the line from peaceful protests to an illegal, unsafe demonstration. University Police were called in to address the situation.

But MiddleEastEye argues that U of M went overboard with the arrests: 11 people were detained without negotiation. It felt excessive.

Either way, MPRnews.org highlights the protesters' cause: They were demanding U of M to divest from Israel and weapon manufacturers, echoing past student activism.

Smashed NYC statue

A police investigation is underway to identify a suspect accused of vandalizing defacing statues at religious statues at St Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church in Brooklyn, New York. Catholic News Agency says the crime is downright disrespectful.

NY Post says the Brooklyn church community was similarly taken aback: The NYPD probe highlighted an offense to the religious community and its heritage.

Yahoo says the statue in question was 99 years old! It held serious historical value.

NC Register was offended by the act for a different reason: The attack was an affront to religious symbols, done in broad daylight!
