Smash in case of emergency…

Smash in case of emergency…

Good morning from the beautiful Central Coast!?

For me, it is bittersweet being here.?

I'm here for clients, so that's great, but it is also where I 'grew up' with my family in Australia.??

My brother learned to surf at Wamberal, I worked at the Crowne Plaza in Terrigal (as an in-room dining person), my parents lived just around the corner in Narara & we often came to Terrigal for a family day out.?

So everywhere I turn, there's a reminder of what no longer exists for me, my family. ???

However, it really is beautiful here & so it's hard to remain sad for long.

BETTER BUSINESS:?What's your plan B??

No alt text provided for this image

Don't wait until things go wrong to make a Plan B. Having a Plan B doesn't mean that you're planning for the worst. Instead, it means you are making good decisions when you are in a good space (not fight or flight mode, where you're likely to make mistakes) so that you can feel confident that even if things go wrong, you will be ok.?

'Business resilience' is an organisation's ability to adapt and recover from unexpected events, such as natural disasters, economic downturns, or cybersecurity threats. Many of us have experienced unexpected events recently. As a result, you may have dealt with staff shortages, supply chain issues creating shortages, technical challenges, flooding, outages and the list goes on.?

This week, Auckland City experienced a third extreme weather event - another "atmospheric river" resulting in another state of emergency. There were flash floods and gridlocked traffic. Our business experienced supply and service difficulties - no lunch delivery for a client session and no way to get home!??

What did we do? We self-catered and postponed the second half of the day's business so people could leave early to get home through traffic if needed.?

Mark O'Donnell is an experienced EOS Visionary and Implementer. He suggests thinking about resilience in this way:?

"Give your employees the confidence to succeed in your absence by documenting core processes and automating as many tasks as possible. Train your team to think independently and provide your organisation with a clear vision and action plan.

Using the EOS Traction Organiser? and the Accountability Chart? aligns everyone with a clear vision and actionable steps.?

With EOS, you'll have a plan B, putting measures in place to mitigate risks. Then your business can better weather unexpected events and emerge stronger from adversity".?

BETTER LIFE: How do you recover??

No alt text provided for this image

Bad things happen. We as human beings are usually pretty optimistic, and generally we live each day thinking, "that will never happen to me."?

But actually, things do happen, and just as you will likely never experience the perfect day, our lives are peppered with challenges. Whether you are facing the challenges of your daily work, family, the environment or your own health & wellbeing, there are techniques to counter the impact of these and help us to be resilient in difficult times.?

There are many ways to increase resilience. Some of those include having a good support system, maintaining?positive relationships, having a good?self-image?and having a?positive attitude.?

Factors that contribute to resiliency include:?

  • Having the capacity to make realistic plans.?
  • Being able to carry out those plans.?
  • Being able to effectively manage your feelings and impulses in a healthy manner.?
  • Having good communication skills.?
  • Having confidence in your strengths and abilities.?
  • Having good problem-solving skills.?

FIND OF THE WEEK: Rise & Sleep?

No alt text provided for this image

Lack of sleep is one of those things that WILL definitely affect my day. At the least, it renders me less resilient – with brain fog, lack of energy and general malaise, I was pretty motivated to find a solution to my intermittent sleep issues, and I discovered this wonderful Energy & Sleep App.?

RISE enables me to monitor my sleep and energy levels through the day. And contrary to what we have been told in the past, you can catch up on sleep!??

Connected to my Apple watch, RISE tells me when I have a sleep deficit. This is a signal to take it easy and make sure I get a good night's sleep the next night – effectively catching up on lost sleep. It also tells me when my energy levels peak and drop throughout my day. This helps me to make the most of those high energy times and helps understand when to take a break.?

If, like me, the monster comes out when you are sleep deprived, you'll find RISE will help you to RISE,?and SHINE too.

PODCAST OF THE WEEK: Take control of your life.

Blain Oelkers , a successful business coach, is, in his own words, America's only 'Chief Results Officer'. Blain speaks with Debra about how we can change how we think, which will change our behaviour.??

He has coined the term WYTABA, "What You Think About You Bring About."?

He tells Debra about the techniques leaders and managers can use to bring success-oriented behaviour to their businesses.?
