Smartcar is now ISO-compliant ??

When we surveyed drivers last year, 57% said they saw the benefit of automakers and developers partnering to create an ecosystem of external vehicle applications and services.?

These partnerships would unlock all kinds of use cases that extend beyond what you can do in your car — like improve navigation, maintain vehicles, and manage household energy.?

But as our report also indicates, drivers first want transparency into how their data is being used.?More on platform security and exciting new solutions in this month's newsletter!?

Smartcar is ISO-compliant!

Smartcar is committed to giving all platform users the highest standard of security and privacy to run their mobility business and serve vehicle owners. We’re happy to announce that Smartcar is now ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 certified. What does this mean for you?? ISO/IEC 27001 is an international standard that establishes a clear framework to identify and manage information security vulnerabilities and prevent data breaches.? Virtual key status API

We have a new brand-specific endpoint for Tesla vehicles across North America and Europe! With the virtual key status endpoint, developers can quickly get visibility into a vehicle’s installed Virtual Key. It lets you know if a vehicle has the appropriate virtual key installed without developers having to manually issue commands and check returned errors.?

This endpoint is valuable for mobility businesses using Virtual Keys to issue commands to vehicles on the Tesla Fleet API. Visit our docs for more information.?

How Uplight powers its AI-driven DERMS solution with Smartcar?

As one of the first large-scale DERMS solutions to use AI, Uplight ’s AutoGrid Flex? assesses available energy consumption flexibility for more accurate distributed energy resource (DER) management. Uplight uses predictive load control to balance supply and demand in real time, partnering with over 20 electric vehicle service equipment (EVSE) manufacturers to maximize EV reach across utility programs. But accommodating EV drivers outside of those partner EVSE manufacturers remained a gap.?

We saw the need for EV and EVSE telematics coming over a decade ago, but utility requests, new projects in the pipeline, and joint offerings with Schneider Electric prompted us to explore partner solutions to augment our direct EVSE OEM connections and reach an even wider base of customers.

Olaf Lohr , Business Development Manager at Uplight.

3 ways to improve the auto dealership CX

A 2023 survey by Cox Automotive found that 48% of vehicle owners were frustrated with their auto dealership experience.? Common causes of dissatisfaction included difficulties scheduling convenient appointments, services that take too long, and unpredictable costs. ?

Cars are no longer black boxes of information that need on-board diagnostics hardware to power better, faster vehicle services. We’re seeing auto dealerships redefine engagement with potential and existing customers by using a vehicle telematics API to retrieve timely data. Here are a few ways auto dealerships can use telematics to generate revenue and build brand loyalty.

?? Set up predictive maintenance alerts: Monitor vehicle mileage, tire pressure, fuel tank levels, and more on a recurring basis. Prompt an alert when these data points drop below a predetermined value.

?? Targeted warranty upsells: Alert customers about upcoming warranty expirations based on the number of miles driven. Then, automate marketing communication to show customers relevant upgrades.?

?? Increase car sales and trade-ins: Use vehicle mileage to give customers accurate trade-in valuations for existing vehicles and new car models for sale that align with a customer’s driving habits.?

What’s on our event calendar? ??

We have some exciting events lined up for the rest of the month — and the spotlight is on energy and EVs ?

?? Future of Utilities

We’ll be visiting Halfweg, Netherlands to attend one of Europe’s biggest energy conferences on March 20 to March 21, 2024! With over 1000 energy experts in attendance, we’re excited to discuss new innovations and collaboration for managing EV charging with EV APIs. We’ll be at Booth #21 — book a meeting here to to grab some time to chat and walk through a demo at the event.?

?? EV Charging Summit & Expo

Our team will also be in Las Vegas from March 20 to March 22, 2024 to meet with EV charging experts and discuss opportunities for vehicle-to-grid applications, smart charging solutions, and better charging station experiences. If you’re attending the event, let’s connect!

How to use Smartcar to manage EV charging

There are a few reasons why EV charging hardware isn’t as frictionless as one might think. Firstly, EV chargers don’t provide utility programs with necessary EV data for demand response — like a vehicle’s state of charge.

Level 2 EV chargers are also not always accessible to all EV owners, especially those who live in multi-unit housing or don’t have the space for complex electrical installations at home.? In this free guide, you’ll get a deeper understanding of where the Smartcar API fits in managed EV charging programs. We explore:?

  • The problems energy providers want to solve with EV telematics
  • Why an EV API platform like Smartcar is a viable solution
  • What you can do with the Smartcar API
  • Case studies of how energy providers use the Smartcar API?
