Cities are on a waste-reduction crusade. They are under environmental pressure to do so, but they are also short of locations to store it! As a result, communities in France, Slovakia, and the United States have implemented access control solutions that incentivize citizens to sort their garbage and, in some cases, pay for it as well. Cities in France have recognized the value, with some towns employing bio-waste to power public transportation. They've also been able to cut waste by roughly 30% thanks to incentive fees. New York is the latest city to experiment with composting access control. Could pay-as-you-throw be the next step?
