A smart mobility hub - transform desire into action
MOBIAN.Global
P+R | A one-stop shop to launch your parking as a fully digital mobility hub.
MOBIHUB IJsbaanpad - Within just under three months this inconspicuous parking transformed into a fully digital mobility hub. Software, hardware, signings, perseverance and executive power on both parties: MOBIHUB IJsbaanpad has been up and running now for almost two years. A trusted Park & Ride location for passers-by, a popular pitch for residents' cars and an immensely popular Park & Bike solution for commuters.?
State of play
For us, November has been a month full of interesting mobility conferences, trade shows and webinars, and we could not describe it any better than last week's article at Mobility Platform. A striking and recognisable piece on the current state of play in mobility hubs in the Netherlands. The desire of municipalities for a mobility hub is great but so is the lack of decisiveness.?

A hub as a solution
Slowly but surely, cars are being banned and no longer welcome in several big cities. Think of the top prices you currently pay for street parking and what about the waiting time of the ever-growing waiting list for a parking permit. A hub as a solution to car parking but also to make shared mobility more attractive and keep the city reachable, as a location to switch to sustainable modes of transport because of zero emission zones, or as a solution to parking pressure due to the lack of space in the city centre. It could very well be a solution to many issues. Nevertheless, the mobility hub is a hot topic to talk about, but the lack of knowledge, blueprint and regulations keeps municipalities from pushing ahead, accelerating and realising them. Very unfortunate, we think, as we strongly believe - and can speak from experience - in the seamless, accessible, smart and affordable multimodal journey of the future.?
Time has come, spread some hubs
As said, at MOBIAN we are convinced of the power of a smart mobility hub. Pre-book your parking spot, gain access to the hub by licence plate recognition, open your rental bike via your mobile phone… It narrows the gap between car ownership and shared mobility?and especially the 'smart, digital part' makes it incredibly accessible and simple to use.?We favour car-free cities and time has come to act on it. Two years ago, we took matters into our own hands by launching several hubs in collaboration with private parties such as hotel owners and car park operators, like the previously mentioned MOBIHUB IJsbaanpad. Now we think it’s time for municipalities to join and step up their game. Time has come to offer motorists a solution for an accessible car-free city. A lack of knowledge? Hereby, we would like to extend an open invitation to both public and private parties to share knowledge and accelerate the process. Just start implementing mobility hubs, learn by doing and work together towards a complete system. Then a blueprint and possible regulations will follow naturally.?Now, let's spread some hubs together!
