Call Open for SMART Marine Institute Research Vessel Bursaries 2022

The Marine Institute in collaboration with the Strategic Marine Alliance for Research and Training (SMART) is offering up to 27 bursaries on dedicated FEAS surveys in 2022 on the Celtic Explorer and Celtic Voyager.?

Surveys are valued at a fixed rate of €95 per survey night. Full integration into the survey work programme ensures that successful applicants make an important contribution to achieving the survey goals.??

2022 Surveys are:

  • CE22004 Irish & Anglerfish megrim survey Leg 1:?5th to 17th of February: Apply before January 12th
  • CE22004 Irish & Anglerfish megrim survey Leg 2:?17th of February to the 1st of March: Apply before January 19th
  • CE22005 Mackerel Egg Survey Leg 1: 2nd to the 22nd March: Apply before January 21st
  • CE22007 Irish Anglerfish & Megrim Survey Leg 3: 13th April to the 22nd April: Apply before February 25th
  • Mackerel Egg Survey 2022 Leg 2:?June/July.?Vessel and dates TBC: Apply before April 29th
  • CE22010 WESPAS Leg 1: 14th June to the 4th July: Apply before April 29th
  • CE22010 WESPAS Leg 2: 4th July to the 25th July: Apply before April 29th
  • Celtic Sea Herring Acoustic Survey: October 2022. Dates TBC: Apply before August 12th?
  • Irish Groundfish Survey Leg 1: 31st October to 11th of November: Apply before August 12th?
  • Irish Groundfish Survey Leg 2: 12th to 23rd of November: Apply before August 12th?
  • Irish Groundfish Survey Leg 3: 24th of November to 5th of December: Apply before August 12th?
  • Irish Groundfish Survey Leg 4: 6th of December to 16th of December: Apply before August 12th?

This is a unique opportunity for learning and mentoring in offshore data collection skills and practice.??Continuous Professional Development is recognised by completion of the accredited module:??AGFF09003 Marine Research Vessel Data Collection and Surveying.?

Requirements

Applicants need to have current ENG11 medical and Personal Survival Techniques (PST STCW95) certificates.? Please note ENG11 medical certificates must be renewed every two years and PST every five years. Information on obtaining medical and PST certificates are available at the Marine Institute's Vessel User Information page.?

Applications are invited from graduates, postgraduates, early stage researchers and practitioners from Higher Education Institutes, Research Agencies and Marine related enterprises across the Island of Ireland.?
