A Smart Hunter Couldn't Survive
Once a hunter was lost in the middle of the forest and struggled to find a way back home. He was baffled and scared as evening was coming on. His heart nearly melted when he ran across a Lion, and the beast seemed hungry and was ready to paw on him. However, he stacked up more or less courage and requested the Lion to let him go. Lion said, "give one convincing reason to allow you to run without hurting or eating." After thinking for a while, he answered, "if I don't go home, then my family and friends will come looking for me. They will arrive with guns and knives to hurt animals, and if they found that I am wiped out, they might cut the entire forest”. The lion got convinced and let the hunter leave. Hunter was happy to get his life back and ran from that place.
Not very far, he encountered a Tiger. He consecrated the same story to the Tiger as he presented to Lion and requested to pass. The tiger said, “if I don’t eat you now, then I will die out of hunger; I don’t care if tomorrow your family or friends attack me. Feed me another reason, and if I am convinced, then I will let you go; otherwise, I will eat you”. The hunter was nearly sure that he won’t break away now; still, he thought for a while and said, “he has caught a dangerous virus in the timber and spread in his body completely. To survive, he must return home, and if anybody eats him, then they will die of the same disease”. Hearing this, Tiger let the hunter go. Hunter thanked the Tiger and ran away.
Not very far, he took to the woods across a huge snake, and it tried to eat the hunter. The snake was tough and did not entertain any of the reasons he used last time. The snake said, “I am poisonous, and no virus or disease will come to me.” Hearing a snake’s creepy laugh, the hunter started sweating badly. He understood that he is out of excuses, and then he promised the snake that he wouldn’t hunt any animals anymore if he is allowed to go. Snake thought for a while and agreed not to eat the hunter as he was moved by the promise the hunter made. Hunter thanked the snake and moved on happily.
Then the hunter saw a Rabbit, and he had a decent time to take his rifle out and leveled to the Rabbit. Clearly, he had forgotten the promise he made to the snake. The rabbit saw that he is about to get shot; trembling with fear, the rabbit requested the hunter not to obliterate him. Hunter asked the rabbit to give him a convincing reason why he should not kill. The rabbit said, “I have a family, and my kids are waiting for me to get back. I need to go back to my family”. Hunter laughed loudly and said, “not really convincing” and moved his finger to draw in the trigger. The snake came and gulped the hunter out of nowhere without giving the hunter any chance to react. The snake was following the hunter without his knowledge to make sure he keeps his promise. The hunter survived three times, but in the end, died by not holding back his promise.
The moral of the story
- Don’t serve anything to anyone that you would not want to pass off to you. Always put yourself in other people's shoes.
- Promises are made to be kept, not broken.
