Smart home technologies are the key to decarbonizing living spaces
At COP28, Nice again emphasized the potential of the Smart Home for contrasting the climate emergency by reducing the environmental impact of buildings, starting with domestic ones.
In fact, according to latest researches, about 40% of energy consumption is in houses, but 75 percent of buildings are not energy efficient [1].
By automating processes and analyzing data in real time, smart homes (already 300 million worldwide [2]) enable users to save a lot of energy, reducing both their environmental impact and the amount of their bills. Through the adoption of smart home solutions, such as those offered by Nice in more than 100 countries, people are able to monitor and take control of their energy use, reducing costs and contributing to a greener future.
“In Nice's vision is a new future of living: sustainable, intuitive and designed to put people and their well-being at the core. Through connected, integrated and cutting-edge solutions, we position ourselves towards our customers — from consumers to businesses and organizations — as enablers of tangible change, empowering them to make their living and working spaces better, safer and truly sustainable spaces”, explains Marco Bianchet, Group Quality and Sustainability Director at Nice.
Bianchet spoke on this topic on Dec. 11 at the 28th edition of the Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) being held at the Dubai Expo City, during the panel discussion organized by IMQ eAmbiente Srl and IMQ Gulf FZCO, "Corporate Carbon Disclosure: Actions for Climate Change" which was part of the calendar of thematic events organized in the pavilion of the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security.
At the event, Bianchet also described the Group's sustainability strategy, focused on the Governance, Environment, Product and Social pillars and reported last October in the second edition of the Nice Sustainability Report - "Welcome to the Nice Future".
A commitment that also includes reducing the carbon footprint, for which the company has set ambitious goals by 2030, with the intention of reaching Net Zero by 2050. The first milestone in 2030 includes reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 30 percent and reducing Scope 3 emissions by 10 percent.

A crucial focus area in this journey is indeed energy efficiency and sourcing from renewable sources. Last year Nice reported a 58% increase in certified green energy consumption reaching 33% of total consumption: a further step in the broader journey to achieve energy self-sufficiency or 100% of renewable energy with guarantee of origin by 2025.
As part of the activities related to the company's sustainability strategy, on Dec. 4, Marta Gemin, Sustainability Coordinator at Nice, participated as a speaker at the "Together Toward 2030" event, organized by IMQ and eAmbiente at Palazzo Labia in Venice and dedicated to CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive), emphasizing how for Nice, technological innovation is the key to ensuring the sustainability not only of homes, but also of companies themselves.
