SMART Goal Setting

SMART Goal Setting

We all have goals. In both our personal or professional lives we all have things that we’d like to do or achieve. Whether it’s getting a 5-star performance review from your manager, expanding your business or running the London marathon one day, setting SMART goals will help us get there.

What is a SMART goal you ask? A goal is SMART when it is:

S for Specific: What exactly do you want to achieve? The more specific your description, the greater the chance you’ll get exactly that.

M for Measurable: Can you identify exactly what it is you will see, hear and feel when you reach your goal?

A for Actionable: Any goal you set for yourself should be realistic. That doesn’t mean they have to be easy, but you should be able to achieve what you set for yourself. Otherwise you may just be setting yourself up for failure.

R for Relevant: Your goals should align with your values and long-term objectives.

T for Time Bound: When will you achieve your goal? You need to choose a time that is realistic but not too far off into the future.

SMART goals not only provide us with a target to aim for, they also increase our chances of hitting our targets. This means, by using the SMART framework, you ensure that you achieve your goals as quickly and efficiently as possible.
