GeniCan launched its smart garbage can at CES 2017, the big tech trade show in Las Vegas. Part of the smart home, the GeniCan attaches to most garbage cans and recycling bins so that you can easily update your grocery list. Once you’ve thrown something out, the odds are good you’ll want a replacement. The scanner at the GeniCan will analyse the barcode and forward it by WiFi to the router at your home. The WiFi module inside the smart garbage can could be replaced with an NB-IoT module or even better to the new combined NB-IoT, LTE-Cat-M1, GPRS module. The cellular module will do the job even at basement, where will maybe no WiFi coverage. There is no need to register the WiFi network. The smart garbage can could run independently. What is your opinion? Makes NB-IoT sense for this application? If you are interested in a combined NB-IoT, LTE-Cat-M1, GPRS module with 13 bands and worldwide coverage for your wireless IoT idea, then do not hesitate to drop an email to harald.naumann (at) lte-modem.de

7 年How does it work? I had to take my wastes, emptied cans etc. and make sure not to destroy/remove the bar code? When I want to recycle I had to show it to the scanner (and I should not rush and throw the trash into the bin)? Slowly and carefully until scanner will tell me it has seen ...? And at the end it sends all the information via NB-LTE to a cellular carrier network where I had to go with a subscription (in addition to cell phone contract because NB-LTE is not LTE and potentially a different carrier)? How convenient could it be? An RFID based solution, where my waste basket will realize what is inside or even my kitchen drawer can see what is left in storage, fridge etc. ... So many ideas possible to solve a problem: even a humanoid robot could sort my trash and do the job, as well. BTW: when I return my cans to a recycling station, e.g. a vending machine where I put in my cans and bottles in order to get my refund - it can tell me in the same way what I have consumed. Why I need at home a camera sitting in my trash bin, with an uplink to a carrier network with a monthly subscription payment?
