??? The traditional and still-typical so-called but long-outdated “corporate planning” approach is based on rigid annual cycles and quarterly/monthly reporting, which is no longer adequate (even if it ever was) in today’s era of rapid change.

??? A proper strategic approach is required. Leading-edge companies get to the future FIRST, by moving FAST, and acting SMART, using this framework:

? Specific: What to accomplish, by whom, by when.

? Measurable: How to know when you achieved the milestone.

? Attainable: Realistically achievable based on time and resources.

? Relevant: Aligned with strategy, purpose and timeframe.

? Timely: Target and deadline date for achievement.

?? FAST:

? Frequent: Frequently reviewed and discussed to stay on course.

? Ambitious: Stretch goals that are realistically achievable.

? Steadfast: Concrete KPI and OKR metrics with fixed milestones.

? Transparent: Communicated to all employees and stakeholders.

?? FIRST:

? Futuristic: Long-term moonshot goals.

? Innovative: Require 24/7 innovation and change mindset and culture.

? Realtime: Managed on a digital dashboard 24/7, not monthly or quarterly.

? Strategic: Designed to put the business out-front of competitors.

? Tactical: Enable agile course corrections while retaining long-term mission.

Great share Frank, your Smart + Fast = First Business Strategy is so on point. Companies and leadership that understand this philosophy, design is moving closer to the center of the enterprise. People need help they need their interactions with technologies and other complicated systems to be intuitive and pleasurable. Design thinking is an essential tool for simplifying and humanizing. The principles include a focus on users’ experiences, especially their emotional ones; the creation of physical models, such as diagrams and sketches, to explore problems; the use of prototypes to experiment with solutions; a tolerance for failure; and thoughtful restraint in product features so that even a complex piece of technology can be easy to use. Creating a design-centric culture requires understanding that the returns on an investment in design are difficult to quantify, allowing people to take chances, and appreciating what design can and cannot achieve. Design helps people and organizations cut through complexity and imagine the future, but it doesn’t solve all problems.
