Starting on a new social media platform can be scary

Looking for a new channel to market your business? TikTok could be the answer.

When I first logged onto the TikTok platform two-months ago, it felt like the early days of Twitter when I felt like I would never get to 1000 followers. But eventually I got the hang of it. It felt like learning double-dutch; it looks scary with two jump ropes swinging around quickly, but eventually after watching how it’s done, you jump in where you fit it. TikTok is not a passing fad, and video is the future of marketing, so it’s time to embrace it as a legit marketing channel for business.

In my early days, I felt so overwhelmed and almost quit a bunch of times. Beyond feeling like a had to be in hair and makeup every day to make videos, I was searching for content ideas simple enough to explain in 15 seconds. Then I had to learn the tool. It took me?1 month?to figure out how to add text on the screen, but once I did it was GAME TIME. I signed up for a five-day TikTok challenge to learn some insider tips and get motivated. It helped a lot. I decided to do four types of video content, trending sounds :15 seconds, Boss tips :15 seconds, new product alerts :1 minute, and keeping it real posts: 1-2 minutes.

  1. Define the audience you want to serve: It’s important to learn what tribe you want to join and serve on the platform.
  2. Create slide shows: Use a mix of video and pictures to tell your story or sell your products.
  3. Use music in all videos: Even if you lower the music audio to10%, add music to all videos.
  4. Use TikTok’s hashtag suggestions tool: Based on the headline of your video, TikTok will suggest relevant hashtags.
  5. Add titles and captions: Highlight your brand colors within the titles of all videos, and add closed captions for people who watch with the sounds off.?

Give TikTok a try. It’s not just about people twerking to grow their following.
