Subject lines... Do you know the “make or break” point for business email?

It’s the subject line.

Although subject lines are short (a good length is between 5 – 10 words), they are a writer’s biggest challenge.

The shortest copy to write is often the most difficult. However, here are a few tips:

Write two subject lines for each of your emails. When you send out your email and notice that some folks didn’t open your first email within 24 hours, simply re-send the same email to them but use the second subject line. Sounds easy, Right?

You’ll also get some insights regarding the types of subject lines that perform well. Take note of which subject line performs the best. It can help you create better subject lines in the future. Have fun with your subject lines but, just make sure your promise in the subject line is fulfilled with your email copy. Using a bait and switch subject line is a great way to loose credibility with your target customer. Don’t do it! Make sure that what you promote is what you deliver.
