Small Wins, Big Impact: The Ongoing Journey of Learning

Empowerment through Technology Program, supported by Adobe, is one of the various initiatives under the skilling and employability vertical at Nasscom Foundation that was designed to empower youth from the Economically Weaker Section, with a focus on enrolling 60% of women beneficiaries. One of the objectives of this project was to provide beneficiaries with industry-relevant IT and employability skills, enhancing their job readiness. Through comprehensive training, mentorship, and career guidance, the project aimed to bridge the skill gap and create sustainable employment opportunities. The project was implemented in two phases, during which we collaborated with more than 20 colleges across northern and southern India to provide industry-relevant training. Beneficiaries from Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Delhi NCR received training, certification, and placements, making this initiative a truly pan-India effort in digital skilling.

As we approach the closure of this project, I recently found myself in a thoughtful conversation with a colleague about what truly matters in the end. It’s not just about the numbers or the milestones achieved—it’s about the transformative journey, the mentorship, and the lives we’ve touched along the way. Every session, every connection, and every step taken to empower youth has left an indelible mark. When I first joined the Empowerment through Technology Program, I had the opportunity to work closely on the ground, witnessing first-hand the gradual yet powerful transformation of our beneficiaries. From the commencement of training—where many walked in with uncertainty—to seeing them confidently navigate technical skills and job readiness programs, it has been a journey of growth, resilience, and empowerment.

Many beneficiaries traveled long distances daily to attend IT and soft skills training classes. Beneficiaries from Meerut, Sonipat, Faridabad, and Narela in Delhi—places far from the training center in Noida Sector 2, Uttar Pradesh—commuted every day, determined to upskill themselves. What truly stood out was their unwavering dedication—some never missed a single morning class despite the long travel hours. Some stayed back after classes to study at the center due to the unavailability of laptops and internet at home, while others even took extra classes when needed. Their commitment to building a better future for themselves and their families is nothing short of inspiring.

This project was more than just a technical training program—it was a catalyst for personal and professional growth. Equipping youth with in-demand skills, instilled confidence, nurtured aspirations, and opened doors to new opportunities. Engaging with beneficiaries first-hand, I witnessed their dedication to upskilling for a better future. Beyond technical expertise, they developed essential behavioral skills, teamwork, and communication skills through interactive exercises and real-life job scenarios, strengthening their workplace readiness. Seeing them embrace challenges and progress toward their career goals has been incredibly rewarding, reaffirming the transformative power of education and mentorship.

One of the key highlights of the project was the strong participation of women beneficiaries. With a focus on increasing women's inclusion in technology, we successfully enrolled and trained over 60% of women, equipping them with essential digital and workplace skills to enhance their career prospects.

The Power of Mentoring Sessions for Career Readiness

Special mentorship and training sessions were conducted by Adobe volunteers, providing beneficiaries with valuable insights into career pathways and the IT industry. These sessions focused on corporate readiness, workplace adaptability, and essential professional skills. Beneficiaries received guidance on CV creation, effective communication, and personality development, helping them present themselves confidently in job markets. Additionally, mock interviews and employability workshops prepared them for real-world hiring processes, ensuring they were well-equipped to secure meaningful employment opportunities.

Witnessing Real Results

Every trained beneficiary was provided with at least three job opportunities, ensuring multiple pathways to kick-start their careers. Placement drives were conducted both online and offline, including on-campus recruitment drives, where I actively participated in facilitating the process. With strong industry connections and rigorous training, most beneficiaries secured jobs and are already working. The project aimed to place at least 60% of the trained beneficiaries in relevant roles, ensuring a smooth transition into the workforce and empowering them with sustainable employment.

"Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love." – Mother Teresa

When I met one of our beneficiaries, Anushka, she lacked clarity, but I always saw determination in her efforts. She never missed a class, always asked questions, and stayed back after sessions to discuss her doubts with the trainers. What stood out was not just her dedication but the small yet consistent steps she took to improve every day. Guiding her may have been a small act on my part, but the love and effort she put into learning made all the difference. She was awarded the Best Student and the 100% Attendance Award during the felicitation ceremony—a recognition of her commitment and perseverance. She is one of those I will never forget as a part of this project.
