Small village - everyone knows your business...

Small village - everyone knows your business...

This is a terribly small industry. Terribly because every corner you turn someone you know, someone you have worked with, someone you had a crush on, and someone who broke your heart. But also those that have great memories of you, of work done, of events, prizes and of course those long lasting relationships.

Being at Cheil Worldwide and it being one of the leading creative agencies has revitalized my sense of community. The commonwealth of the advertising community, and those of us that live with passion in it. Yet being such a small community I was reminded of that as I was at a traffic light in front of my office, on the crosswalk happened to be Anselmo Ramos so I honked and he came over to my window. I am proud of what he has accomplished, as we met in 2008 (yes that long ago) at the Ogilvy Brasil offices, I the head of Neo the digital and direct group, and he of course our head of creative. It brought back so many memories of the office in Sao Paulo, the characters and the lifelong friends I made, the mentors and those that are family to me.

The very next day of seeing my friend on the crosswalk I get a call from Juliana Tonussi to remind me we had lunch scheduled. Again, somoene from that amazing group and during lunch with my team Thaia Tucci, MBA and Kiara González Betalleluz we talked about the old days and those people that are still part of our lives. I recall the apartment in Maresias with Kika Oncken Cook Dubin , Marcele Guimaraes , Rodrigo Falc?o , Guilherme Arruda and Caroline B. . With Ju we talked about our industry friends now at GUT and DAVID S?o Paulo

We got to catch up on where some folks ended up, and laughed about so many things we did with Leonardo Oliveira and the whole "Posto Crew". Also how her life intersected with my friend Andrea Tornovsky as they worked together for a time and how we are all connected to PJ Pereira and of course the amazing Lo Braz which is now connected to my most amazing friend Sil Curiati

Yes, its a tiny industry, yet all with global goals, ideas, and clients that make us better. In my case the 联合利华 , 萬事達卡 , Sony Pictures Entertainment , 菲亚特克莱斯勒 and so many more that have shaped my professional life. The key I feel is that we are in this to think big and dream big.

Big dreams, and so as I sit at the Cheil Worldwide Miami (Coral Gables to be precise) I look at those great folks that have shaped my love for this industry, from visionaries that I am lucky to know Dave Morgan , to mentors like Marcelo Salup and leaders I respect like Daryl Lee and Julian Porras and today my leader Ken Choi who has been totally amazing to work with.

Thank you so very much to everyone that has been a part of my small village - there are too many of you to stop and thank, but please know you are in my heart and I am filled with gratitude...and of course big dreams as we all should have in this crazy advertising world.

Thanks, Xavier M., it's always a pleasure to see you. Speaking about tiny villages, GUT was in my workspace, WeWork at 255 Giralda. Sheer coincidence, I of course run into Junia Parodi there, who I did not remember as working for GUT, but, there she was, so another welcome connection to what was a truly fun past. Looking forward to more years of the fun industry.
