A small timer can boost your productivity by many folds.
Do you procrastinate the project just because it's too big to accomplish?
I have found the right tool for you to solve this problem.
Introducing POMODORO technique
You may have already known the technique but may not have used it.
Read further how you can use the POMODORO technique most effectively in your day to day life.
So What is Pomodoro?
Pomodoro literally means tomato in Italian.
This technique was developed by Francesco Cirillo while he was a student.
What is the Pomodoro process?
The process is simple.
- You divide large projects into small parts and prioritize.
- Set a timer for 25 minutes
- Do the task for 25 minutes till the buzzer rings
- When buzzer rings take a short two-three minutes break.
- Repeat the process
- After such 4 sessions take 10-15 minutes break
- Record your progress in a notebook.
We can set the timer as per your comfort and convenience, but make sure you do not overdo it.
My experiment with this tool.
I decided to use this tool and write a small write up on Pomodoro for the LinkedIn post.
I divided the project into small parts.
- Researching on Pomodoro techniques
- Making notes for Important concepts.
- Preparing the first draft
- Writing the final draft
I set the timer for 15 minutes as I found it comfortable for me.
In the break, I took a short walk in the office, did some stretching.
In Pomodoro number 4, I was done with the article, so I had the most extended break.
Difficulties I faced while doing Pomodoro.
- I became aware of my own behavior, like checking emails, mobile in between. Well, which was a distraction?
- It may look so easy and simple, but it took a great deal to focus on only one task.
- It was difficult to do time budgeting. Like sometimes, I overestimated sometimes I underestimated.
Best way to get most out of the Pomodoro technique
- Make sure you are not disturbed while doing it.
- Manage your distraction in advance.
- When you start the timer, focus on the task at hand, not water break or any other break.
- On break, do not do any kind of work. I suggest getting away from your work desk and doing some stretching.
Try Pomodoro for some of the projects, and share your experience in the comment section.
