The Small Things in Life
Years ago, when you reached three score years and ten
Your life was over, but up until then
Work and wages were what it was all about
“No rest for the wicked” we often heard shout.
But now I’ve had seventy-two years so far
And still working, own teeth, still drive a car
I am beginning to wonder where does it all end
‘Cos at this age I really value my friends.
It’s the small things in life that mean so much,
Like a sunny day, a smile, and family in touch.
But this year the story has not been so good
Covid is here, and I’m in a right mood!
You see some folk are worried, their health is so poor
And many a family have looked through a door
Where loved one’s are taken, hospital at the ready
And mostly come home, days later, well but unsteady.
So, think long and hard about the small things again
Make a list, write it all down, and suddenly when
All your worries and fears are rife
Visit a better place, at least you have life!
If you are reading this from a prison cell
Remember, your family feels for you as well.
One day your life will return back to norm
It’s the small things in life that will make you reborn.
