Small Steps, Big Changes: Margot’s Journey to Health

Small Steps, Big Changes: Margot’s Journey to Health

Are you spending more time outside these days? This week, take a 5-minute movement break inside your home with me and listener Margot Cox. No matter how old you are, I think we can all relate to this 72 year-old South Carolinian’s struggle to tear herself away from her screen and give her body the attention it needs. Margot LOVES her freelance work as a legal proofreader. Unlike physiologist Keith Diaz on last week’s episode, she can’t walk and work. Just take a look at her set up...

Margot's at-home office setup makes it a challenge to move while working.

Margot tried to do the Body Electric challenge last fall, but, as she puts it, “failed miserably.” Today, she’s recommitting! Because even just one minute of walking every 30 minutes helps regulate blood sugar levels and can reduce blood pressure by 4 to 5 mmHg compared with sitting all day.?

Move and listen with me and Margot as she shares her laments and new tactics. The struggle is real even for the most determined of us out there.?

And finally, here’s a sneak peek at what’s coming up next: How is all our headphone/earbud listening affecting us??? The results of a massive study … and advice on how we can listen more safely and productively.?

Meanwhile, I challenge you to recruit someone who could use some support in thinking about their health more. Invite them to join us by going to NPR.org/BodyElectric and signing up for our quick-start guide. Tell them Margot Cox from South Carolina sent you!

Hi Manoush Zomorodi, These series are great. Thanks for sharing them. I am walking at least once before starting working, once after lunch, and once after work.
