SMALL QUESTIONS… BIG REPERCUSSIONS! - Why there is no scope for free advice in law

Any lawyer that is practicing will always receive a call from people they know who wants to ask?"Free legal Advice." For themselves or for their friends in distress. As a strict policy, I do not provide free legal advice. If you are the one seeking free legal advice, kindly read this :

1.???YOU WILL GET INCOMPLETE/ IMPROPER ADVICE/SOLUTION.?

As per law, there's nothing like a "small question". If an attorney provides advice on a "quick question " basis only, it will not be based on 100% of the information, we need to make an appropriate and accurate solution for you. I've been through many situations where we've discovered good things during the documentation or halfway through the case.

That has dramatically changed the prospect of solving this case, both favorably and unfavorably. If I were to judge immediately after a five-minute phone call, I would recognize some of the really bad cases and reject many of the good ones.

2.??I WILL DISLIKE YOU INSTANTLY AND IMMEDIATELY.

If you called for a "Small Advice", you probably just interrupted me when I was working for my other client, which Pays me to help him out. "Fast" is usually synonymous with "free", so I'm wasting money and incurring loss answering your question. Right or wrong, that means I've probably given a quick judgment on you, which may be reflected in the quality of response/Advice you receive.

3.??YOU WILL NEVER SPEAK THE WHOLE TRUTH.

People instinctively look for corroborative information. Your " small question" probably contains all the information needed to make you look good and probably won't include any of the "adverse/bad facts" that a good lawyer needs to know to solve the case. Since you can't tell me everything that happened in a brief. I know you'll pick the facts that will make you look good, not the ones that are the truth.

4.??I ALREADY KNOW YOU WILL BE AN AWFUL CLIENT.

It may surprise you, but lawyers hire and fire their clients the same way clients hire and fire us. If we don't like you, we will stop representing you or never consider your case. Like many lawyers, I have tiered my clients. My A-List Clients value my time, stick to my schedule, keeps me updated, and pay my bills on time. My C-List clients expect immediate results, call any time of the day and negotiate every bill. Client "C" doesn't stay long. Your reluctance to pay for a cheap initial consultation is the main red flag that you'll be at the bottom of that scale.

5.??I WILL FIRE YOU?

Your "small question" is actually considered as my legal representation. If I give you any advice, no matter how mild, you've just become my client under the law being constructive. So if the person suing you comes into my office to pay me for the issue you called me about, my 30-second response will prevent me from being held up by a paying customer. Your "small question" might actually cost me money.

6.??I WILL SELL YOU

When I did the first free consultations, it was a sales routine. I would hear your sad story. I would sympathize, but in the end, I wouldn't give real legal advice as that's my business secret. If someone came in and wanted free information, I would sell them to the next step instead of helping them. To me, it was unfair and deceptive, besides a total waste of everyone's time. Finally, I shared the difference and decided to charge a reduced rate for the initial consultations, realizing that there may be clients I can't help but at least they had paid the money for calling on my services, so I will give the best possible advice during our first conversation.

7.???I KNOW YOU DO NOT RESPECT ME?

What may seem like a simple question to you has probably taken me years to learn, often from very painful lessons, loss In a case or etc. I've been insulted by my clients, I've been insulted by judges, and I've lost cases after spending unimaginable hours preparing them. I've also had clients cry with joy in my office, I've had judges who were so impressed with my work that they referred potential clients to me, and I've also won deals that I could easily lose. Each of them taught me a valuable lesson and each experience is a data point that allows me to better represent my clients. If you call to ask a "small quick question", you indicate that you only want an answer, not a relationship. My best work comes from a long and ongoing relationship with my clients, many of whom have paid me and met me monthly for years. Not only will your "quick question" yield an unbiased "quick answer", but you probably won't look any better, than you did before you called me.

8.??ATTORNEY CLIENT PRIVILEGE IS EXCLUSIVE FOR PAYING CLIENTS

Attorney-client privilege is a rule that maintains the confidentiality of communications between attorneys and clients. Under this rule, lawyers cannot divulge their clients' secrets, nor can others force them to do so. The purpose of the privilege is to encourage clients to openly share information with their attorneys and to enable attorneys to ensure effective representation. All good things have a price and there are always cheaper or freely available trash but that is not nearly as good as the real deal. People often misunderstand price for value and forget how important it is to keep a well informed and healthy relationship with the one person that can literally make or break your case with the advice given.?

HOW TO BE A GOOD CLIENT

My favorite statement to hear on the phone is, "I'd like to make an appointment”. It gives me a chance to not completely change the subject of what I'm working on, while still committing to helping you. Giving 100% of my attention on a scheduled date Quick answers are rarely good answers and if I can give you my full attention you will get a much better answer than you would get in a short phone call?

Hiring a lawyer is inherently difficult. From the outside, we all look the same. Just looking around can seem pricey.?

Granted, there are a few exceptions, such as in personal injury cases, but you probably won't get much help or actual interactions from a lawyer who offers free consultations.?

There are a lot of generic free advice resources available on the internet like this article and this is the best you can get for free from ME.
