Buoyed by oil and natural gas prices and increased production from a significant acquisition, the exploration and production company reported profits of $81.8 million in 2021, swinging from a loss of $48.2 million in 2020.

VAALCO, which focuses on production of crude oil and natural gas in West Africa, said its production increased by 46 percent to 2.6 million barrels for last year. The company, whose principal assets are located in the Etame field offshore Gabon and in Equatorial Guinea, ranked 10th the Chronicle 100 list of top performing Houston companies.
