Small but helpful
The Center for Science, Technology and Economic Development just finished an assessment of the Trade Adjustment Assistance for Firms Program, the subject of this well-written WaPo article. We found, among other things, that the program contributed to firm stabilization and/or survival, the retention of employees, growth in the capabilities and knowledge of employees, and expanded technical and business networks. As a result 61% of firms we surveyed reported increased competitiveness; 59% reported increased productivity/efficiency; and 41% reported diversification, entering new markets, or reaching new customers. In terms of growth, 59% reported increased sales/revenues and 38% reported increased employment. Not bad..
