The Mark Steward Team traveled to do some exploring in Five Points Raleigh recently. Five Points is best described as the intersections of five suburban neighborhoods at Glenwood Avenue, Fairview, and Whitaker Mill roads. The neighborhoods include Hayes Barton, Bloomsbury, Georgetown, Vanguard Park, and Roanoke Park. Platted in 1910 and developed though the early 1920’s. Each neighborhood brings it’s own character to the area due to deed restrictions, particular location, and period of development. In addition to the residential area there is also a thriving variety of businesses.
In Hayes Barton, the homes ranged from grand Colonial Revival, Georgian Revival, and Tudor Revival homes. Where as in Bloomsbury and Roanoake Park, you see more Craftsman style homes and modest bungalows. In the post-Depression recovery Era of the later 1930’s and 1940’s the homes were more modest with simplified architecture and efficient layouts. These homes were more prominent in Georgetown and Vanguard Park.
Before we explored too much, we stepped into Form and Function, an interior design studio and home decor shop. With great antique furniture pieces, jewelry, and accessories, this is your one stop shop in order to have a modern and trendy Raleigh home! We fell in love! We also got to chat with owner and Five Points resident, Carole Marcotte. Carole is the creator of the Design District Raleigh map. Watch the interview below!
Not only did we fall in love with Form and Function, but actually all of Five Points. We visited Nofo, the famous Hayes Barton Pharmacy and Cafe, and walked down several of the streets to see the gorgeous, traditional and renovated homes. Five Points, much like the rest of the Triangle is very family friendly and gives you a tremendous sense of community. The area is certain to feel like home for people from all walks of life!
