Small Businesses need for newer Tech

In todays #technology world IT has become the pinnacle of tasks, work flow and Business logistics. It’s the heart of operations in most if not all Businesses.
We know that supporting PC and #Mac users to maximise efficiency and get the most out of the investment is a must, but how many of us review the tools and processes we follow. The reason why i’m writing about this is because i’ve seen too many businesses being held back by not using #applications and tech developed over the past decade to handle day to day issues.
Let me give you the example of a #CRM, which stands for Customer Relationship Manager. This is usually a web application which organises and puts all information about a specific customer on one portal, notes and products / services etc. Many businesses still use Paper, files and folders to organise their customers notes! I’ve seen that in 2019.
So it got me thinking, how come they haven’t developed whilst the rest of the world have? So I had a few reasons in my head. One of them was simply because no one ever showed them how to. Another reason was because some business managers and owners really believe the “if it’s not broken don’t fix it” mindset. Which usually applies but this has stopped them from going out of their shell, looking for and trying out new ways of management then further analysing the benefits vs drawbacks.
Whilst there are many reasons why SMB businesses haven’t got to speed as they should have done by now, one of the main ones is in my opinion because they’re scared of change. Fearing change is a major #business killer. People become almost like #robots and want things to work like clockwork. But their clocks have gone antique and need to go #digital.
So for something like changing the way they access their #PC (Change of login username and password for example) becomes a massive hurdle in their mind. This causes delay and then they get over it and forget it ever happened. But the time they spend waffling on about this kills business. I have mostly found this with the midle-aged to the elderly #Managers and I somewhat feel for them.
The younger generation and their #IT problems is a different kettle of fish but for the main part, IT support has to be delivered with delicacy to ensure that you maintain their trust in you and the trust they have in IT so you can carry on continiously giving ideas and showing how to improve their use of tech to aid them in their day to day activities.
Businesses who are open to exploring ideas and new technologies definitely have more chances of thriving in this day and age. That's why one of todays points is that fearing change kills businesses.
I hope that reading this somewhat inspires you to encourage your staff to think of new ideas and think out of the box to improve current work flow with the help of IT. This requires a culture change which isn't the easiest thing to do.
I always love to advise and learn - What are your thoughts on this?

6 年It's not that simple, you only have to search Google to see that 50% to 60% of CRM projects or up to 73% or ERP projects fail. Buying/implementing technology won't solve these issues because these are 'business change' exercises that involve technology, process improvement and users (users often being the most difficult area) and you need to be able to know how to address all three areas consecutively. CRM systems can be very beneficial but to get real gain you also need to include sales training/process improvement, order processing, process improvement, business analytics, continual improvement etc......also CRM's can handle and automate many middle and back office processes for those organisations not big enough to require a full blown ERP solution.
