Small Actions for a Big Difference!
Sealand Gear has always recognised the impact of little changes for good, and sees value in sharing these findings - particularly when they're as interesting as this - with our stakeholders. We aim to inspire change across the board, and would like to highlight the outcome of just one small, easy to action initiative that has resulted in a big saving.
The production of virgin cardboard is notoriously intensive in water use and emissions - trees must be grown, felled, pulped, processed, transported and dyed to form the cardboard we use so casually every day. The environmental impacts of this process are huge, but we can negate them with an easy change - recycling our used cardboard. This material is then used to form new, recycled cardboard with far less impact than that of virgin material.
We have two schemes in place in our?Campus in Hout Bay. Our partnership with Plant The Seed ensures that our office waste is responsibly recycled, and on an individual level our DC Manager Chester Lyons has been making sure our large corrugated cardboard waste from DC gets recycled each week with our local recycling centre - and although it seems like a small project it's made a?massive impact!
Over the course of the 2023, the total amount of cardboard recycled came to 1 196kg. Diverting just this waste stream from landfill - and we divert?many?more -?has saved:
