SLTEC teams up with Sinisian residents for 3rd quarter river clean-up
For the third time this year, South Luzon Thermal Energy Corporation (SLTEC) conducted its quarterly river clean-up at the Sinisian River with the help of the local community of Brgy. Sinisian, City of Calaca, Batangas, held on August 23.
As part of the company’s initiative to protect and preserve the river, the Corporate Sustainability team held first an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) Campaign for the volunteers, which was attended by 18 SLTEC employees and 25 barangay residents.
The IEC campaign discussed the state of the country in terms of plastic pollution and explained several ways of combatting the issue like changing their plastic consumption habit and participating in river clean-ups. As a pre-activity, the company creates a more sustainable impact since the change will not only transpire along the river but also in the lifestyle of the community surrounding it as well.
After the discussion, the volunteers proceeded to traverse the river and spent an hour-long cleaning, collecting different kinds of trash like plastic bottles, plastic bags, and other household materials. The group also extended their effort on the road above the river, which is also filled with a handful of thrown-away garbage from the people crossing the area.
To conclude the quarter 3 clean-up, SLTEC provided breakfast to all volunteers together intending to maintain the cleanliness of their area.
SLTEC was recently recognized by the DENR - Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) CALABARZON for its dedication to the Waterbody Program in conserving the adopted river.
