Will slow tech save 2022?

Will slow tech save 2022?

We’re back to work and already feeling the hustle of the new year creeping in. Diaries filling up, more meetings than work time, and skipping breaks to get through the to-do list.

It’s no wonder our Members only 'wellbeing and boundary setting' coaching call was the biggest crowd we’ve had since mid-2021, and articles on ‘slow productivity’ have been immensely popular here on LinkedIn.

Could slow tech be the answer to your problems in 2022?

No, we’re not talking about slow websites or crashing apps (they’ll create more problems for you) - I’m talking about using technology to help us slow down.

As the internet and the wonders it provides has progressed every new feature has been focused on efficiency, speed, reach, DOMINATION. Creators want us to crave our dopamine hits and be online more to work harder, produce more - spend more.

We’re losing connection in the rush from one online meeting or activity to the next. Connection that is key if you want to achieve your goals in 2022.

I predict a year of stress tech rejection - a conscious effort to avoid the beeps and notifications of tech that demands your attention. There will be a shift to slower, more meaningful connections and I predict, ironically, an increase in online app and product usage for tools that help us to be mindful.

For fundraisers that means virtual conversations and online experiences layered over our usual activities to bring warmth and attentiveness into donor relationships.

You will need to find your core audience and create experiences that make people feel involved, engaged, and delighted.

Don’t demand their attention. Earn it.

How will virtual events and experiences change fundraising?

Later this month we’re launching brand new research, in partnership with JustGiving, that will provide data insights of the impact of virtual engagement and live-streamed events.

The insights provided will shine a light on the impact of live-streamed virtual events that focus on connecting with donors at an event or experience and the impact it’s had on income, stewardship, and even job satisfaction.

We’ll be asking 500+ fundraisers about their live event experience in a short questionnaire and we’ll be sharing the results in the spring - all for free.

If you’ve hosted an online event in 2020 and 2021 or want to learn from those who have, subscribe to our community to be the first to know when the paper goes live and download it for free.

Everywhere+ is the virtual event platform for charities that's big on unfiltered connections and meaningful experiences.
