Slow recruitment process = No growth
Why do companies not move quicker on great candidates?
It's one of the most frustrating parts about being a recruiter. You take the time to fall in love with an amazing new client - you learn every part of the business to ensure every word you say about the client to the prospective candidates has them excited about the company - you start an extensive search to build a highly-reliable recruitment pipeline - keep in contact with all of your candidates - the client shows interest and not just the "scroll through your facebook feed" interest but the "you're hired!" interest in a couple of them - so they request to interview the candidates, only to take 2 weeks to schedule the interview - then cancel and reschedule - then finally just stop giving feedback for 1 month - and then decide they want to hire one of your candidates a month later.
Okay so we understand - you need to be selective, diligent and take your time in choosing the correct candidate, the talent pool is large after all - however there is a fine line between effective due diligence and nit picking - this is the analysis that should take place in a quick decisive manner:
- Background Check
- A Search on the Applicant’s Name
- Past Employment Reference Checks
- Social Media Analysis
- Personal Reference Verification
- Multiple Interview Stages (with 3 for Tech and more for Management Roles)
More than this, especially in the Tech space, will drive candidates away - a prolonged interview process is extremely bad for your organisation's reputation unless you're Google or Facebook - from an external point of view this is what candidates will generally think:
- Your company uses inefficient interviewing techniques
- There was an improper breakdown of the position by HR
- There is a lack of decision making.
The War for Talent is over and the candidates have won - those that live in a world where candidate experience is not taken into consideration will be left behind.
