Questions of the week: What is the status after round 1 of Scorecard Day 2024?

I write this article based on the insight of my conversation with my team in our monthly 1-on-1 call. I speak with each one of my team members. This article is to share the question of this week and our method to work on it. You can subscribe to the Building Our Team newsletter (2600+ subscribers)

What is the status after round 1 of Scorecard Day 2024?

We have 6 rounds this year, one of two months each, so round 1 was from Jan & Feb 2024. Here are the takeaways from our team and 5 people's comments.

Completely surprised by the impact of the system:

Before starting the Scorecard Day, I anticipated it would take around 9 to 10 days. However, when my team and I began working on the scorecard, we completed it in just 1 hour and 45 minutes. This surprised me initially because I doubted how we would finish it.

However, after going through the process, I realized that if we followed the proper steps outlined by the system, we could accomplish everything much faster than expected.

Learned in-depth about system documentation:

Creating a Systems SOP is a step-by-step process. It involves writing the SOP, implementing it with the help of teammates, and continuously improving it. The System SOP should remain consistent across different milestones. Help documents are an excellent means to incorporate dynamic elements (e.g., source data) into SOPs.

Active participation gave me more insights:

Last year, I procrastinated on the culture call assignment. This year, I started working on it as soon as the new assignment was added. By doing so, I have minimized procrastination, as there are fewer points to cover. Also, while working on scorecard day, I understood the pain of the operation team creating the scorecards.

Building SOP is a team sport:

Repeating the process cleared most of the doubts that I had. Also, seeing the creation of an SOP for the entire team helped me understand that whenever we create an SOP, everyone should be able to follow and complete it.

Myth can be broken with evidence:

Initially, I thought creating a scorecard would take more days, and it's quite difficult for one person to create it; however, when I began creating the same by following the SOP/Process, it took not more than 2 hours to create a scorecard. The SOP was created in such a way that it made it easier for everyone to create the scorecard within a few hours.

Here are my 6 key highlights from the past two months:

  1. Second round of the SOP version is done
  2. Training modules with 73 lessons are done
  3. Four people completed their first Rehearsal Scorecard with an average time of 3 hours and 15 mins
  4. We found a SOP structure that can help us to get our objective for the rest of the year
  5. The team came up with a small number of good-quality automation and deletion
  6. No milestone achieved yet and progress has been slow.

My biggest disappointment is that we could have easily completed atleast 1 Scorecard Day with 12 team members.

It is the lack of sense of urgency towards important objective that disarms the team members to double their impact with minimum effort. Thus making them virtually effortless.

It is something that could double the salary of every member our team in next 2 year if done sincerly. Only because they don't see the vision clearly they are not invested in it 100%
