Slow or Fast - Its a Choice
Life is a series of choices, each leading to the next, shaping the path we take.? I wasn't always a book lover. But then, back in 2001, my dad took me to the Owen Trust library in Kanyakumari. I remember the awe of touching those giant encyclopedias, flipping through international magazines like Nature, New Scientist and National Geographic. And then, I stumbled upon "Inside the Atom" by Isaac Asimov. Something about it just clicked, and I read the entire book in two days. It was like a whole new world of knowledge and imagination.?
Recently, I learned about the closure of Readers Digest UK. It felt like a small part of that slower, more thoughtful world was fading away. It's easy to see why people are drawn to the instant gratification of TikTok and other platforms – those quick bursts of information and entertainment are undeniably powerful. I truly worry that we are losing something valuable in that process.
The slow, deliberate process of reading a physical book, letting the words sink in and spark our imagination, is a treasure worth cherishing. It's a journey of discovery, a chance to connect with ideas and stories in a way that the fast-paced digital world can't always replicate. It's a choice for depth, for contemplation, for a kind of intellectual and emotional richness that lasts.
?I hope that even in a world dominated by the "fast," the "slow" will find its place – a place where books continue to inspire, challenge, and transport us to worlds beyond our own.
