The Mindful Minute
By Pema Sherpa & Brendan Barca
Age-old wisdom for modern living. Each week you'll get 1 quote, 1 reflection and 1 action to help you lead a calmer, clearer, and more conscious life.
Slow Down, Watch Out, & Be Gentle
Quote:
“Not causing harm requires staying awake. Part of being awake is slowing down enough to notice what we say and do. The more we witness our emotional chain reactions and understand how they work, the easier it is to refrain. It becomes a way of life to stay awake, slow down, and notice.″

Reflection:
Have you ever had a random encounter with a stranger that completely threw you off for your entire day? Perhaps you were on your morning commute, lost in thought, and you accidentally walked across the intersection as the light was turning green. A driver sitting at the light responded with a loud honk and an angry shout. This unexpected interaction left you feeling frazzled, and it lingered with you throughout the day
As the driver sped away angrily it's clear that they didn't take a moment to consider how this encounter might have affected you. She may have been absorbed in her own agenda and saw you merely as an obstacle in her way.
When we operate in such a self-centered manner, we often find ourselves in a kind of daze, oblivious to the impact we have on strangers, acquaintances, and our loved ones. We are simply trying to make it through the day pushing through anything or anyone that comes our way. However, if we want to live more gently and harmlessly, we must slow down and recognize that the people we encounter everyday are not merely instruments or obstacle to our goals. They are living, breathing, feeling beings just like us.
Action:
Just for today, as you come into contact with people on the street, at a coffee shop, or at work, interact with them with a sense of awareness and responsibility that this interaction has the potential to deeply impact them either positively or negatively.
....
Have a mindful Wednesday and see you next week!
