Slow Down the Pace, Especially During a Divorce

Slow Down the Pace, Especially During a Divorce

One characteristic that most of my clients going through a #divorce share (and most people I know, in general) is a frenetic approach towards living life. I understand it, especially during the emotionally challenging time of splitting up. Each day can seem like a real battle, and simply getting through point A to point B to point C can feel like an impossible challenge.

So the answer is often to simply charge through it all without giving much thought to the moment. But the problem I observe with that approach is that there is a lack of clarity about what’s happening around you. It also doesn’t leave much room for thought or consideration about the long-term impact of rushed decisions. This is the most troubling part for me, as advice for a solid financial future after divorce is part of what I provide to my clients.

My advice is always the same. Take time to breathe and appreciate what is happening around you at any given moment. Yes divorce is one of life’s most stressful events. Yes it often causes you to lose sight of the forest for the trees. Yes it can seem like there is no future. But the best way to ensure a healthy, happy life long after the final judgment is signed, is to focus on nurturing your spirit in the here and now.

This article sums it up perfectly. And even has a nod to one of the all-time great movies, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Ferris really understood how to live in the moment.
