And just like that it's nearly Easter.
I realise it's truly a sign of my ever increasing age that not only does it seem to catch me by surprise how quickly we romp through each year (see also: seasons) but that I also feel the need to pass comment on it regularly. It seems only yesterday I was celebrating the end of the 476 days of January, and now the next time I write to you Easter will be over and we'll be a quarter of the way through the year. Madness.
Here on the farm our thoughts are turning to the rapidly approaching summer (sorry, sorry, I'll stop now!) and all the exciting plans we have. The biggest one is Open Farm Weekend on the 8th and 9th June - click here for more details.
Read on for other thoughts, ideas and plans we have for the month ahead...
STOCK UPDATE
The last few bits of our short dated stock will be removed from the website shortly. The best before date is about quality and not safety. After the best before date the food will be safe to eat but may not be at its absolute best.?This meat will still be delicious to cook and enjoy for any occasion.
RECIPE
We made this recipe at the weekend and I totally failed to take any photos it was scoffed so quickly. Created by the wonderful Darina Allen at Ballymaloe, it was full of flavour and colour and yet still allowed the beef to really shine. Ballymaloe is on the route home from our annual holiday with family in West Cork and we've spent many a happy hour prowling around the beautiful gardens and shop.
RECENT PURCHASE
We are approaching Peak Birthday in our farming family - with seven out of the nine of us celebrating over a space of 10 weeks. I spent a very happy time perusing the beautiful Cambridge Imprint Company website earlier this week choosing cards and paper. I might have also slipped these lovely stamps in to my basket too.
BRINGING THE OUTSIDE IN
Grape hyacinths continue to abound around the house, in just about any receptacle I can find. This weekend is also when I plan to start planting seeds for summer harvests of vegetables and flowers. All window sills will shortly be covered in little seedlings poking their heads through.
