Speed up your downloads with this simple hack.

Ever find yourself plagued with insanely slow downloads from the Apple App Store or iTunes? Here is a slick little trick that has been helping me for a while now, and I know this is nothing new. Simply change your DNS server, even if just temporarily. I have been using (OpenDNS) https://use.opendns.com/ for just over a year now for this and it has been working flawlessly. For example, I am sitting at Starbucks trying to download Xcode and my estimated time has been steady at 1 day.

Looking at the DNS settings at Starbucks , it looks like they were just using Googles DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 which makes sense given it is google internet. In any case, switching my DNS to OpenDNS 208.67.222.222 instantly fixes the issue.

This seems to work well no matter where I am when I experience slow downloads on App Store. Hope this saves someone from throwing their laptop.
