Over the last few months, we embarked on a truly remarkable journey at SLK delving into the legacy of the legendary Shri. S.L. Kirloskar. While I deeply wish to have met the legend,?who shaped and influenced the philosophy of our organization, the next best thing was immersing ourselves in his lore. Through his autobiography, "Cactus & Roses" and?a series of?fireside chat sessions with our Chairman, Parth and with those who lived with him, we had the opportunity to catch a glimpse of Shri S.L. Kirloskar?leading all of us to:

  • Trace back our roots and remember our legacy
  • Understand what shaped Parth's business philosophy, which became the bedrock of our organizational philosophy
  • Learn how these core values have become part of our organizational DNA


As I reflect on this journey, several key takeaways from the fireside chat sessions have stayed with me:

  • Value Creation Over Valuation:?Focusing on creating a lasting value rather than merely increasing valuation.
  • Strategic Independence:?Striving for financial freedom is crucial to maintaining control and flexibility in our decision-making. Hence understood why zero debt and staying private is important.
  • Customer Relationships:?Cultivating deep and meaningful relationships with our customers ensures trust and loyalty. Secret sauce of our zero customer attrition and referential growth over a period of time.
  • Openness to Opportunities:?Always be on the lookout for new opportunities and remain open to change. Acquiring VLabs, a Joint Venture with Voya and?establishing Maldivian Mermaid are a testament to this.
  • Dare to Innovate:?Avoid conforming to the norm and think outside the box to drive innovation.
  • Curiosity and Interests:?Maintaining a curious mindset and developing a wide range of interests fosters personal and professional growth. As the world is becoming multidimensional and rapidly changing, the only way to stay relevant is by continuously adapting.
  • Embrace the Art of Possibility:?Initiating with “Yes” enables us to see opportunities, while starting with “No” highlights hurdles.


It was truly overwhelming to witness the level of engagement during this initiative. With 17 teams and over 150 members participating, we had 130+ reading sessions and participants shared over 700 updates on LinkedIn. This collective effort has culminated into an immersive and interactive journey.

Thank you all for your enthusiastic participation and for making this journey so enriching. Together, let us honor our past while boldly stepping into the future, driven by the values that define us.
