Sliding Into Those DM's
You ever get a DM on Instagram from a random person who’s just trying to reach out to a fellow ‘Instadreamer’? Like…
“Hey bro, I see you’re doing your thing and I dig it. I just wanna be making that paper, y’know? If you got me, I got you.”
Damn Daniel.
Have you? Did it work?
Because, for me. For some reason…It does. This guy’s just doing his thing getting his name out, establishing relationships and connecting. I respect him for that. Am I then going to be out galloping the hills and smelling flowers with him?... Maybe…
But the difference here is that, unknowingly to a normal eye. I predict that this message may have been copy and pasted?
So, how does that make me feel? Well, now that I think about it. I feel a little less special…
Not really. But, what I’m trying to question here is the effectiveness of direct messaging someone through Instagram and I think that on some level, yeah it’s effective. This random fucker has sent me a copy and pasted message that is trying to pull on my heart strings and establish a lifelong alliance to battle the storm of Instagram.
That may be a little bit more than what was intended but hey ho.
What the message has done is that it has almost shone a spotlight on his name. What that does is whenever I receive a comment or scroll through my feed and it’s him. I’ll most likely look at it. The familiar name rings a small bell of recognition in my mind and brings it to my attention and with the oversaturated state of content with Instagram, it does help.
Now this is on the lower end of benefits from a message. What if you really did connect with me. Or even better, just messaged me because you wanted to help me with that thing that I really need help with right now and provide value with no strings attached. You’re planting the seed of a business relationship that could flourish into a 80 year old big motherfucker of a plant stocky looking thing…
And the fact you can do this anywhere, anytime with a little rectangular hypno device. Makes your ability to drive sales and network for your business incredibly high.
So, slip into those DM’s people…
Don’t copy and paste, though. Take a little more time actually looking at the receivers profile and personalise the message to them because you’ll have a higher success rate and you can’t bring value to people if you don’t know what they need.
