SLIDE 2: SCHOOLS AS COMMUNITY
The course will now delve into the two New York locations’ experiences with local schools as the emphasis for community well being and evolution. The schools in question are called “El Puente” and “Salome Urena” and they, like the other community-schooling premises and locations in the study, had central emphases. El Puente focused energies on community connection as the mission and academic advancement as the crucible.

Salome Urena emphasized health, well-being, and extracurricular activities as extension of the school’s influence in community.
Both delivered energy into the community and provided a practical means of accessing and contributing to the health of the community through its learning center. This model extends and articulates the potential of LEARNING & COMMUNITY in many aspects across the US and the world as well. As may be obvious, there were economic currents running into and out of the projects. This and other prevailing evidentiary findings suggest that there may be major untapped resource within the platform. New levels of community strength and vitality can be achieved within the simultaneity of protecting our children and carefully schooling and teaching them to evolve and grow at the same time.

In terms of ethical and communicative success, these studies also provide both uplifting and challenging examples in practical terms. This and other findings provoke in the course offering a question: Is a society ethical and positively communicative when and if it turns its back on the schooling of its youth? Or, is this the abyss the “Dark Knight” must rise from?
