Slicing Avocados
Recently, I encountered an article titled ‘6 Things E.R. Doctors Wish You’d Avoid,’ which appeared to be an engaging read. ?Upon reviewing the content, certain points were quite obvious. ?For instance, avoiding trampolines and not disregarding sudden symptoms are clear recommendations. ?However, one particular advice stood out: Don’t slice an avocado in a hurry. This prompted me to question whether a significant number of individuals indeed sustain injuries while cutting avocados. ?The article highlighted that kitchen knife injuries are among the most frequent cases encountered by emergency room doctors, with avocados being a notable cause.? One doctor even chuckled often saying to their patient, “Oh, you were cutting avocados,” to which their patient often replied, “Yes!? How did you know?”? ?The key takeaway is the importance of exercising patience when handling tasks such as slicing avocados. Furthermore, this advice extends beyond just slicing avocados.
In our work, patience is crucial. ?While moving fast and failing fast is a common mantra, patience remains a virtue for a reason. ?What may seem like failure can sometimes be a temporary setback leading to future success. ?This does not mean we should abandon the idea of failing fast when necessary, but it does requires a level discernment to know when to act and when to wait. ?Tesla Motors, founded in 2003, aimed to produce affordable electric vehicles. ?Despite not making a profit for over a decade, they persisted. ?By 2020, they recorded their first annual profit, paving the way for their success.
In a fast-paced world, patience can be valuable. This does not mean waiting when your organization’s survival is at risk. ?It does mean that if you are confident something will work, it is important to support it and wait as long as reasonably possible for it to succeed. ?Keep this in mind the next time you doubt whether something will work … or when preparing avocados.
