How many of your team get enough sleep? How much do you care whether they get enough sleep, as long as they’re in work on time and doing their job does it matter?
Recruitment is known for its long hours, relentless work load and for testing your emotions on an almost daily basis. There are numerous accounts of larger companies having their teams in at 7am and working through until 7pm every day as a minimum, I’ve certainly seen how few people stick at this grind. I’ve often thought, does that make them a bad recruiter, do they lack the core skills to be a successful recruiter, or were they just knackered and wanted more balance, in other words could they have been great with a little less work and a little more sleep?
A client of mine recently told me that they get 10 hours of sleep most nights and that rather than getting up at the crack of dawn they believe that sleeping in a bit each day works. They told me how mentally alert they are, how much more they can remember, how happy they are to feel refreshed and ready each day, in short, they’re much better at their job for the extra sleep!!
The adage goes that it’s not the hours you put in but what you put into the hours that counts and since starting Talent Digital we have certainly worked some very long hours, but now as we grow is it time to change that mentality? With so many of our clients offering flexi hours of work, unlimited annual leave, sleep pods at work etc, what can we learn from them as business and industry? Is now the time to change the mentality in recruitment and get your team sleeping more, sleeping better and maybe working slightly less?
More sleep, better sleep = happier and more productive team!!!!!!!

6 年Hugely agree with this, the flexible companies I've worked for with the mindset of looking after employee's health have always made the most profit that ones that aren't. It shouldn't be rocket science. I also think age/experience is a huge factor though. Graduates and new consultants do need more structure.

6 年Good question Lloydo, ultimately you have to look at when you as an individual are most productive. I find I am much more 'awake and alert' during the day if I get up early and do some exercise. The days I don't get up and instead have that extra hour in bed I feel sluggish! On the flip side I find that between 12-2pm I normally have a bit of a lull, but pick up hugely in productivity for the rest of the day and evening!? So for me I can't help but do the 7-7ish but maybe should consider a midday nap, siesta style. Who knows!?! But it needs to be part of the conversation!?
