Hello!
Another day, and another lesson to learn. Yesterday we started our discussion on how sportsmanship skills help in career. So, cultivating sportsmanship is not about being an avid sportsperson. It is more about having the spirit and on the topic of having a hobby, there can be nothing good than playing and more importantly a sport.
Here is more on how playing any form of sports can help you build desirable qualities fostering career growth.
Team Player
Now, what does being a team player mean? ‘Team player’ as a word is often thrown around in the professional world but in my opinion, it is one of the hardest qualities to develop.
A team player treats every member of the team equally including himself and does not mind being the man behind the stage in order for the project to succeed. Someone who adjust and adapt according to the members of the team and keep the common goal over personal goals; someone who celebrates team victorious keeping his personal failures aside. Needless to say that sports are a good teacher of how you can work together as a team towards a common goal. Each player has his role to play but ultimately they all strive for getting a high score.
Patience
Sport champions are not born but are made. Yes, you require endless hours of practice and patience to keep practicing. Even in professional world patience plays a very crucial role. Yesterday we talked about believing in yourself. So, along with believing in yourself, you need to be patient.
Ethics
The first word that comes to the mind while talking about sportsmanship is ethics. It is said that playing should not be only for victory but to pursue it with fairness, integrity, responsibility, and respect.
A’rnt the above qualities needed in all spheres of life? Yes, it is. It is noteworthy that ethics cannot be developed just by playing sports. This is something you have to persevere to learn. These days I often come across people who talk about competition and winning all the time. Well, if you look at the bigger picture; winning and losing hold very little significance. I cannot emphasize enough on the importance of being ethical.
Love for the game
Passion for what you do. Fans, aficionados, enthusiasts are very well understood in context to the sports world. Sports exuberates such emotions. Can we translate the same passion for the job we do? Sports teach us to be passionate and involved. It is only the passion for the sport that makes all the running and hard work enjoyable. Similar joy can be experienced if we are passionate about the work. This is more to do with choosing the right kind of job and pursuing your passion.
In conclusion, I would like to say that it is not that we do not know about the qualities or are reluctant in playing sports. But it’s just that all of us need little reminders from time to time. Besides, who doesn’t like to let their guard down and enjoy a good game? So, if you come across a safe opportunity to play any sports then do indulge yourself.
