Sleep Discipline

Sleep Discipline

tl;dr: It’s not a sign of weakness. It’s a sign of strength.

I write and think a lot about the idea of “mindset shifts.”

One of the ones that I am focused on is moving from “I have so much to do and sleep is for the weak” to “I only need to do the most important things and sleep is for the strong.”

When I think about life-threatening diseases, there are really only two that get me totally freaked out.

ALS/Lou Gehrig’s disease and Alzheimer’s.

Turns out that I’m not alone in the latter.

Well, according to both?Successful Aging: A Neuroscientist Explores the Power and Potential of Our Lives?by Daniel Levitin and?Keep Sharp: How to Build a Better Brain at Any Age?by Sanjay Gupta, sleep is a key part of the body’s defense mechanism.

No guarantees, of course, but with the other obvious ones like diet and exercise, sleep is critical.

To that end, and to stay “sharp,” I’ve really been focused on sleep discipline lately.

It’s not easy and the TV can be a time suck, but I’m working on the mindset shift.

The ROI on Sleep, I guess you could call it.
