Sleep Apnea (#OSA) Patient Referral Source in less than an hour!

Sleep Apnea (#OSA) Patient Referral Source in less than an hour!

Are you a dentist that wants #OSA patient referrals?

Recently I have been getting a lot of requests from dentists, who provide Oral Appliance Therapy to patients with #OSA (Sleep Apnea), for sleep referral patients they can treat.  In fact, 2 weeks ago I was speaking with a dentist and he said he wanted to set up MD offices to send him #OSA patients he could treat with Oral Appliance Therapy.  He said there were programs he could pay for out there that showed dentists how to do it, but he wanted someone or a company who could and would do it for him.

How much would you pay for sleep apnea patient referrals?

This dentist was ready to pay something like $150,000 for a way to get MD's on board to send him #OSA patients for him to treat.  Knowing that that Oral Appliance Therapy patients can add up to $2,000 or more in revenue per patient I could see why dentists want these patients so bad.  If one MD office refers 10-15 patients a month to your practice this could increase your practice revenue $20,000 - $30,000 or more a month.  That is $240,000 - $360,000 a year in increase.  So it made sense why this dentist and many others wanted something like this and were willing to pay large sums of money to get it.

Finding a MD office to work with can be very hard and frustrating.

Now when I was speaking with this dentist I heard the frustration.  Finding an MD office that will be willing to send a steady flow of #OSA patients over for treatment can be down right hard.  This brings me to another dentist I know in TX who has tried and tried to do this.  He hired a full time marketer to go doctor to doctor and set up lunches (the pharmaceutical way) and educate them hoping they would get their patients tested for #OSA and then send them to him.  He, too , was getting frustrated and found that doctors would get on board only to fall off board.  Lots of money spent very little return for the efforts.

Find a MD office that refers Sleep Apnea patients without knocking doors.

I love a challenge!  I know a fair share about sleep apnea and I am very handy with Oral Appliance Therapy.  Working with MDs is a little different than working with dentists, but I was highly intrigued.  So when I got off the phone with the dentist I wanted to see how hard it would be to creatively find a MD office who wanted to test patients for sleep apnea and then send them to a dentist for Oral Appliance Therapy.

I did it!  I found a MD office highly interested and wanting something like this in their practice.  Want to know how long it took me?

I found a MD office in less than an hour using.................... LINKEDIN!

It took me less than an hour.  I went on Linkedin.com and started searching for MDs in the area of this dentist.  I sent out 5 messages and had 2 respond within less than an hour.  That is pretty high response rate if you ask me.  Not only was it high, but I didn't even leave my house!

All I did was go to the linkedin search bar and looked for MDs in the geographic where the dentist was.  Then I sent those MDs messages and waited for their replies.  Remember 2 out of the 5 responded and want to set up a meeting.

Dentists (MDs and Chiropractors this can be for you too!) Linkedin is an amazing tool!  You can search specifics in locality or types of businesses or people and more.  Utilize it to leverage business for yourself and I promise it will change the way you work.

Stay tuned this week to find out how to get MD offices EXCITED to send you 10-15 Oral Appliance Therapy patients (patients with Sleep Apnea) per month per MD office.

DentaLawyers for Dentists, the tools are available for us. Sometimes we over complicate & make it hard and other times we just completely miss the mark. Glad there are always going to be high value low cost ways to market. Thanks for the comments!

Lorenzo Serafini, I agree informing patients is good, but so many today can't, won't or don't make a choice for themselves. Sometimes prompts are needed.

Gerald Arsenault, this is true and this is not true. My cousin has severe Sleep Apnea, but won't wear a CPAP. In his case the Oral Appliance Therapy has been a great fit.

"I sent out 5 messages and had 2 respond within less than an hour." Kind of hard to top that Rob. Nice job making the technology do the heavy lifting for you. And yes - - the Pharma industry is one of the few left that can survive on the Fuller Brush business model ;).
