This Month...Slay Stress
The year BEFORE Covid-19, the World Health Organization declared “burnout’’ a true medical condition. Today, in the midst of ‘The Great Resignation’’ employee stress and burnout are at all-time highs according to studies from American Psychological Association.?
A big factor: is feeling valued and that your work matters. Perhaps you’ve felt that way as a leader yourself. But it’s likely something on the minds of those on your teams. As work has been largely conducted remotely, it’s harder to build those personal relationships that reinforce value, and have those quick check-ins that just ensure people feel ‘seen’ or heard. While tools like Slack carry the benefits of quick connection, those interactions don’t deliver the same emotional punch. And the continued questioning of the impact you’re really having creates an undue cycle of stress. It also impacts the success of your team. Knowing that your work has an impact and feeling like you’re doing meaningful work are also two of the top five predictors of a high-performing team.
So this month, as National Stress Awareness Month - take the time to connect with your team members individually. Ensure they’re seen and valued. Give specific examples of how their contributions make your team better.
Perhaps they’ll breathe easier. And you will too.

A stress management program for organizations, departments, leaders, and teams of all sizes. We initially presented this program to an organization of 500 employees at Microsoft, with excellent results. We also supported a mid-size mining company, as well as, several chambers of commerce groups and small business associations across the country. While we do recommend a 3-month program for most organizations, we can also present Unpack Your Stress in other formats too—including one-day and half-day seminars. Contact us to discuss options.
