The Sky's The Limit

The Sky's The Limit

Airports are bright, amazing places where adventures start and returning home becomes a reality, but although bright, it’s largely artificial light. From the moment you drive into the car park or disembark the bus or train we are in a world of bright electric light. Covered walkways, enclosed atriums, advertising, signs, shops, vast spaces to wait, information screens, cafés and restaurants all conspire to keep natural light hidden. We then strap ourselves into a tube for several hours with some light entering through the windows, but this depends on where you’re sitting and what time the flight is. Once we land there’s more of the same with baggage claim and passport control and customs halls before finally getting back outside, again depending on the local time it is usually early morning or late evening so natural light isn’t something we experience until the following day once we’ve checked into the resort under electric lighting and been taken to our room through either illuminated grounds or corridors. We do all this and then we are surprised we end up with jetlag.

There is another way, studies show there is a direct correlation between natural light and that awful jetlag feeling. Sunlight helps to reset your internal clock; it is the most powerful and natural tool for regulating the sleep-wake cycle. Morning light exposure can usually help you adjust to an earlier time zone after traveling east. Evening light helps you adapt to a later time zone after traveling west.

At Twinfix, we believe in natural light and have been pioneering the use of polycarbonate glazing systems for over 30 years. We have helped hundreds of projects bring light into the darkest corners and have the knowledge and experience to help light the way within the airport environment. We are a family owned and rub business, based in Warrington. We are a British manufacturer with a focus on high quality and safety and can design bespoke solutions and innovative applications for our glazing systems.

We work across multiple sectors including aviation, education, rail, commercial, healthcare and leisure. We have the knowledge and experience in house to help your project. We are large enough to take on all types of schemes from a simple outside shelter to replacing the glazing canopy of an entire station as part of a historic refurbishment but with a watchful eye on the latest regulations such as CDM. We are small enough to be agile, designing and creating bespoke solutions and working collaboratively to achieve your desired outcome.

Our work includes Liverpool John Lennon Airport where we have supported projects such as a covered shelter outside the terminal, covered walkways from the carpark and as part of the route between the gates and security to ensure domestic and international passengers remain separate but also sheltered and secure during their travels.

Vicky E. , Director at Twinfix said “We are pleased to have been part of the major redevelopment at Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport. We have an extensive range of products that can be quickly tailored to the specific needs of the aviation industry. We understand the benefits of creating light for customers and how important this is for those travelling whilst maintaining security. Our expertise allows us to work quickly so that delays don’t happen for passengers. We look forward to helping to provide solutions for airports across the country and take the ‘lag’ out of jet travel.”
