The Sky is the Limit, but What About Your Career?

The Sky is the Limit, but What About Your Career?

Climbing the career ladder can be exciting. You feel like you can reach the top. You have the energy, the skills, and the leadership know-how. But even if you are on top of your game, roadblocks can appear. The good news is that you can measure your situation with this small trick.

The sky is the limit to your career. It’s all about identifying opportunity and keeping a positive, active mindset.

Two areas you can influence

Two things affect how far you can go with your career: your outside circumstances and your inner life. You can indirectly influence the first, and you have quite a bit more control with the other.

Understanding your outside circumstances

If your boss or a partner closes the door, there may be nothing you can do. While you can’t control the environment or the people around you, you can make a big difference.

As we grow in our careers, we have to picture ourselves like a river. If there is a rock in the middle of a river, the water does not stop when it reaches it. It flows around and over the rock, finding any small crack that gives it a way.

Leadership is influence. If you work on honing these social and strategic skills, on getting beyond the rocks in the river, you can make the best of your circumstances and find success.

Your inner self

Everything rises and falls under leadership. In other words, your professional life depends on the decisions you make.

Investing in your inner self is the greatest way to blow out all the obstacles in your career. In a classic 1903 essay, James Allen wrote, “As a man thinketh, so is he.” Your thoughts affect your circumstances. When you reach a roadblock, a positive and practical mindset can find another way.

Your career can continue to grow. By working on these steps, surrounding yourself with the right people, and living your life intentionally, you can reach the sky.

Great article, I can think back to my career and see the people who opened and closed doors to opportunities based on their fears, insecurities or lack of leadership. This is one of the reasons I left the banking world. I deserved better as do my clients and future clients. There is a better way, you just have to look for it. Great share
